The Tassoldi Park, where birds take refuge
This community has a population of about 3500 inhabitants and is situated at the Southern extremity of the Iseo Lake. As can be seen by the remains of Lacustrian stilted structures, this area has prehistoric origins. It is found at a strategic point on the lake where it is easy to control the mouth of the River Oglio and the roads to the plains and towards Bergamo. The historical centre has medieval origins well worth a visit. Of particular interest the remains of the Lantieri Castle, situated on the hill above Paratico and partially destroyed in 1500 by Lanzichenecchi, the remains of the Lantieri Tower at the foot of the castle, the parish church dedicated to S. Maria Assunta which inside contains a rectory with frescoes and a 700 year old altar. In contrast the lake front dedicates itself to captivating walks alongside the lake towards the quaint restaurants, bars and ice-cream shops that dot the promenade. Town festivals are common here, such as the Honey Festival, the Festival celebrating the patron saint Madonna Assunta , and the most famous, “ Madona dei Pom” (madonna of the apple), where it is tradition for the youth of the town to present the gift of an apple to their loved one.
