The panorama one can observe following both the lake side road and the highway above fills the eyes with wonder. The Sebino Lake, more commonly known as the Iseo Lake gently caresses the shores of both the Brescian and Bergamascan regions which between them appear to hold the contents of the lake as a wine glass would hold and protect its precious contents. An unspoilt landscape within which to experience the contrasts between the vitality of its inhabitants and the nature within which they find themselves year round. Montisola is the largest island in a lake in Europe and rises tall to protect its smaller neighbours, the Island of San Paolo and the Island of Loreto. All three can be circumnavigated to allow for closer inspection. Montisola, absent of cars, quiet, and tranquil welcomes tourists and urges them towards the many walks around the perimeter of the island as well as the adjoining pathways that lead up to the summit where one finds a small church called the Santuario della Ceriola . After the effort of reaching the top, one is rewarded with the most spectacular 360° views of the entire lake and the surrounding mountain ranges. Well worth the effort on a clear day. The Iseo Lake offers ample opportunities to tourists whilst maintaining its purity and allows for the stresses of everyday life to be left behind and forgotten. Here the combination of earth and sky, water and plants, flowers and animals all coexist in perfect harmony. One can experience a place where the modernity of the hotels, the shops, and the urban environment perfectly gels with the traditions of a wise and productive land which offers the best it has in terms of food, oil, and wine whilst still maintaining the authenticity of the old ways in which they were first produced. A land of plenty, which blesses its visitors and inhabitants with ample possibilities for discovery and rediscovery of ancient values and tastes. It is true that it is not as famous as the other lakes in the region and probably for this reason it has been able to maintain its charm, attracting the continuous return of people who appreciate its subtleties, people with privileged sensitivities and certainly in tune with the magic the lake exudes, those gifted with memorable days which culminate in fiery and unique sunsets that burn in ones memory until the next time the visitor is fortunate enough to return.
